What Is The Best Movie Sequel?

Last week, Disney announced with much fanfare that they’ll be making Toy Story 4. The fan reactions have been mixed as the third installment of the series was definitively closed and fourth films have generally been horrific exploitations of market nostalgia at best (see: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Live Free or Die Hard, for example). In light of this, there are some good sequels floating around. I want to know what you think the best movie sequel is. For me, it’s a tough call, but I’m going to say U.S. Marshals with Tommy Lee Jones, Wesley Snipes, and Robert Downey Jr. The Fugitive was already brilliant with Harrison Ford as Dr. Richard Kimble, and Jones’s character was so fantastic that he really deserved his own film just so we could watch him chasing another wrongly accused fugitive!

U.S. Marshals is a 1998 American thriller film directed by Stuart Baird. The storyline was conceived from a screenplay written by Roy Huggins and John Pogue. The film is a sequel to the 1993 motion picture The Fugitive, which in turn was based on the 1960s television series of the same name, created by Huggins. The events depicted in the story do not involve the fictional protagonist of Dr. Richard Kimble personified by Harrison Ford from the initial film. Instead, an altered plot centers on a different fugitive played by actor Wesley Snipes, who attempts to elude government officials from an international conspiracy scandal. However, some of the actors from the previous film who portrayed Deputy Marshals, reprise their roles in the sequel. The ensemble cast features Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Downey, Jr., Joe Pantoliano, Daniel Roebuck, Tom Wood and LaTanya Richardson. (Wikipedia)

  1. Oh come on Eargle…Transformers movies were very entertaining and introduced an entire new generation to the franchise. You ever tried to get an 8-year-old to watch the 80s shows? Good luck.

That said…best sequel was Empire Strikes Back.
