The troublesome debate over the future of killer robots

Asimov’s First Law of Robotics: “A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.”

The question of whether robots should be allowed to kill people—and what the potential consequences might be—isn’t reserved for far-off post-apocalyptic regimes or 1980s sci-fi. It’s actively being discussed in the United Nations, and there’s a movement to pull the plug on the machines before they advance any further.
