Summer of 100 Photos, Day 9: The person who has gotten you through the most.

So this is a terrible photo that my mom took while she was learning how to use her new DSLR, but I like it because the blurriness is representative of some of the darkest times of my life (yeah, I’m shoehorning that metaphor in).

Jana and I were dating during the entire period that my parents’ marriage was falling apart in the late 1990s. Yes, there was Angst Haben, but she and I had a level of confidence that I didn’t even share with my brothers at the time. We broke up after high school, as so many young sweethearts do, but years later our lives would re-intersect during the single lowest point in my life. If it weren’t for her, I might not have found my joie de vivre again. She and my Granny are probably tied for this honor, but–let’s be honest–Granny could count for most of these categories, and that just wouldn’t be fair.
