Colorization Disclaimer

Once upon a time, Ted Turner thought it would be a good idea to colorize films and television shows that were originally shot in black and white–to appeal to a more modern audience–when shown on his new UHF Superstation (TBS). I thought it was interesting that a conscious decision was made to put a disclaimer on the broadcast saying that the original production crew had no say in the colorization process. Naturally, much like Pan-and-Scan, this turned out to be a high crime against film, aesthetics, and history.

I wonder if there was actually some legal ruling that enforced this disclaimer and the more famous “This film has been…formatted to fit your screen” card.
