I like a lot of Disney’s experimental work. Everyone seems to think his name synonymous with “saccharine family-friendly entertainment”, but there was a deeper (often darker) side to Disney, and it’s arguably better.
At one time the animation mogul’s films veered toward radical, experimental art. These works still appealed to children even if they also went over their heads, writes Leonard Maltin.
