NASCAR Commercials (circa 1989-1992)

Remember back when no one wanted the broadcast rights to NASCAR, so Turner took a chance and ran wild with them?

How about back when the only people who knew what NASCAR was were walking out of a screening of “Days of Thunder”? Those were the days!

The IRS is hiring!

Quite possibly the best advertisement(s) for a government job ever conceived.

Milk: “It’s a Health Kick” (circa 1989)

Drink milk! It’ll make you sexy!

Midas: “Foreign Car Brakes” (circa 1992)

Remember when foreign cars were still “exotic” and you had to take your Toyota or even a Daewoo to a specialty mechanic? Midas didn’t care where the car came from!

Gilbert & Montlick: “We Should’ve Called Them First” (circa 1992)

Early 1990s advert for Atlanta-area law firm Gilbert & Montlick. More ubiquitous daytime TV commercials.

Hallmark: “Valentine’s Day” (circa 1993)

Just in case you didn’t know that there was a company that made greeting cards. Also: It’s perfectly acceptable to give Valentines to Platonic friends.

Big Star: “Food Budget Tight?” (circa 1992)

Did anyone ever shop at Big Star? I remember a couple of them around Marietta–in what I remember being “sketchy” areas. There was the one where Fairground St intersects SoMar Pkwy, next to the old County Tag Office (where the Food Depot is now). I think I remember another one being up on the hill across from the Pizza Hut we used to go to at the intersection of Sandtown and Powder Springs. I still remember that big, star-shaped lighted sign glowing in the rainy night….
